Edited by Fabio Cherstich and Arthur Lambert, Larry Stanton: Think of Me When It Thunders is a tribute to yet another artist that died before they could leave their mark and is the definitive publication on Stanton’s art and life to date. It includes 139 artworks, many of them portraits of the boys he met on nightly outings, as well as friends and family and a large collection of self- portraits, plus previously unpublished archive imagery of Stanton’s circle. With texts by Cherstich, Lambert, Hockney, Geldzahler, and more, it’s part artbook, part personal history, a round-up of the faces and names that formed Stanton’s world.

Exhibition: Cultuurhuis De Warande, Turnhout, Belgium (14.09.-17.11.2019).

Anish Kapoor Painting is the first publication to explore Kapoor's paintings in depth. It offers a unique insight into a language that has increasingly been a focus over the last ten years but has also been an integral part of his studio practice since his career began in the late seventies. In works that sit on the cusp between abstraction and figuration, Kapoor's paintings reveal the desire to go beyond the surface that has been so iconically explored in his better-known sculptural works. Recurring motifs are returned to time and again, rendered in paintings in which image, surface, space and time appear in sometimes delicate but often violent symmetry. With essays from such as vital voices as Julia Kristeva and Homi K.Bhabha, with whom the artist has collaborated in articulating his distinctive visual language, this extensive survey presents the trajectory that has led Anish Kapoor to his boldest and most startling body of work to date. Texts: Homi K. Bhabha; Julia Kristeva; Martin Kemp; Greg Hilty; Norman Rosenthal; Emma Ridgway; Chris Knight; Anish Kapoor

For any proper understanding of twentieth-century art, Max Ernst is essential. No one picture or series of book pictures of this, the greatest magician of all the Surrealists, can be taken in isolation as fully representative of the multiplicity of ideas he explored. But in more than 400 illustrations in this book, combined with historical and critical commentaries by Uwe Schneede, we can unravel the distinctive marks of his long and complex evolution: great innovations in technique - in 1919 collage and rubbing, in 1925 frottage and grattage, in 1940 decalcomania, in 1942 drip painting; thematic inventiveness, especially in the years 1925-40; introspective interludes, seen in such works as Design for a Manifesto (1920) and Paintings for Young People (1940); and astonishing climactic points, single masterpieces central to the history of twentieth-century art, such as The Elephant of the Celebes, Oedipus Rex and The Robing of the Bride. His work evokes, with uncanny accuracy, the hideous premonitions of the 1930s, the inexorable power of sexuality, and the secret life (reflected in the human mind) of inanimate nature. Max Ernst has never been at rest, never quite predictable, even in the later, sunnier days of his long life. In his own words, 'the fact that he has succeeded in not finding himself is regarded by Max Ernst as his only "achievement"'. The works of art that have resulted from this strange non-quest are the subject of this absorbing survey.

This book gives an overview of the recent works of Hyun-Sook Song (b. 1952, South Korea, lives and works in Hamburg). In her work she gives voice to the nostalgic memories of her beloved motherland; she developed both a very distinctive style and a technique which blends elements from the West and the East. Song sees painting as a performative happening in which the movement of the brush is the essence of her work as well as the ultimate proof of her inner feelings.
